Concerned about skin cancer?

With skin cancer rates rising, recognising early signs is crucial. Common skin cancers are often more noticeable, while rare types may be less obvious.

  • Melanomas: Most common on normal skin (75%), melanomas typically appear as irregularly shaped, pigmented spots with rapid changes. They may progress into lumps or develop as changes in existing moles. Any new skin marks or changes in moles should prompt a professional consultation.
  • Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): Often a slowly growing pearly or red mark, BCC may scab and bleed. The rarer morphoeic BCC resembles a hard, white scar. Suspected cases often lead to biopsy and removal.
  • Bowen’s Disease and Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Bowen’s Disease, an early pre-cancerous form, appears as a red, scaly patch. Squamous cell carcinoma typically grows rapidly, with a crusty center that may bleed and cause pain. Urgent medical attention is necessary for both.
