What are benign lesions?

Benign lesions are any kind of imperfection on the skin surface, such as lumps, bumps and tags, which are not cancerous and do not pose a risk to health.

Benign lesions are different from skin cancers, which are described as malignant. There are many different types of benign lesions, including:

  • Benign moles
  • Cysts
  • Warts

Skin tags (acrochordons) – small harmless growths that hang off the skin and are similar to warts.

Milia (blocked oil glands) – common, benign, cysts filled with keratin
