Prof Hemant Kocher Consultant Profile

Hemant Kocher is Professor of Liver and Pancreas Surgery at the Barts Cancer Institute, Queen Mary, University of London. He is also Consultant Surgeon at the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals.

His clinical interests include caring for patients with diseases of the gall bladder and bile duct, the liver and the pancreas as well as performing complex major operations for these conditions. He also performs general and laparoscopic operations and operations for hernias.

He runs a large multi-disciplinary pancreas and liver research programme at the Barts Cancer Institute training the next generation of clinicians and scientists in cellular and molecular biology approaches to treating diseases of the liver and the pancreas.

He is Director of the Cancer Tissue Bank, Barts Pancreas Tissue Bank and the world’s first national pancreas tissue bank.

He is board of number of national and international organisations and charitable institutions. He has been awarded a number of prestigious national and international awards such as the Pancreatic Society Travelling Fellow, NIHR Clinician Scientist, Cutler’s Fellow, GSK Young Fellow and Agostino Trappani International Prize amongst others.
