Prof Saurabh Jain Consultant Profile
Saurabh Jain is a Professor of Ophthalmology at UCL Medical School and a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal Free London NHS Trust, with an honorary consultant role at UCLH hospitals in London, UK.
In addition to his clinical role, he serves as the academic lead for Year Two and the Senior Personal Tutor for UCL’s Royal Free site. His areas of clinical expertise include adult strabismus, paediatric ophthalmology, and cataract surgery.
His medical journey in ophthalmology began at King’s College London, followed by his specialist registrar training at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he honed his skills in adult strabismus surgery. He later pursued further specialization in paediatric ophthalmology at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
A passionate educator, Professor Jain has guided many residents and fellows, earning Fellowships from the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) of University College London and the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO). He is the director of two acclaimed training programs: the London Eye Course and the Binocular Vision Course.
On the international stage, he serves as a senior examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and has additional examining roles with the International Council of Ophthalmology and the European Board of Ophthalmology. He is also an active member of the council of the European Strabismus Association (ESA) and contributes to the research and adult strabismus committees of the American Association for Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS).His research is primarily centered on strabismus and ocular motility, leading to numerous publications, including research papers, book chapters, and textbooks. Professor Jain frequently speaks at international conferences and has been invited to deliver lectures worldwide. Balancing his academic and clinical duties, he manages a busy practice across The London Clinic, Royal Free, Whittington, and UCLH hospitals, integrating patient care with teaching, research, and ongoing education.
