Ms Desiree Kolomainen Consultant Profile
Miss Désirée Kolomainen graduated from King’s College School of Medicine, London. Following completion of training in obstetrics and gynaecology in North East Thames, she undertook a fellowship at St George’s Hospital, London, and completed subspecialty training in gynaecological cancer at The Royal Marsden Hospital.
She has RCOG dual accreditation as an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist (CCT 2006) and as a Gynaecological Oncologist (CCT 2011). Miss Kolomainen has RCOG certification in colposcopy, laparoscopy and gynaecological ultrasound.
Within her NHS post, Miss Kolomainen specialises in the early detection and the treatment of gynaecological cancer: endometrial, cervical, ovarian, vulval and vaginal. She is qualified to perform both open and laparoscopic surgery.
She can also perform colposcopy for patients with abnormal smears, and, offer treatment under local anaesthesia where appropriate.
Miss Kolomainen has presented at both national and international meetings on early stage of ovarian cancer; surgical management of bowel obstruction in ovarian cancer; and, surgery for recurrent ovarian cancer. She continues to teach at the Institute of Cancer Research.
